Making the Digital Revolution Work for Planet and People: Potentials, Pitfalls and Priorities in the SDG Agenda

In its latest report “Towards our common digital future” the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) urges countries to update their sustainability strategies and concepts for the digital age.  The report argues that digital change and the transformation towards sustainability need to be linked together to protect our ecosystems while promoting wellbeing and social progress for everyone. New technologies can help address pressing sustainability concerns and promote the effective implementation of the SDG Agenda. But without clear political interventions ongoing digitalization trends tend to further accelerate resource and energy consumption and exacerbate social inequalities.

The event will bring together country experts working on digital strategies for sustainability and representatives from leading UN initiatives like the STI Forum and UNDP Digital Strategy. Participants will discuss challenges and opportunities, best practices and concrete proposals to strengthen the connection between digital and sustainable development strategies within countries and at the UN level.

The event will be followed by a reception. We look forward to your participation.
