Benno Pilardeaux is responsible for WBGU's press and public relations and is one of the co-authors of the WBGU's reports. He deals primarily with development policy issues. He attended as a member of the German delegation the Conferences of the Parties to the UN Convention on Combat Desertification (UNCCD) from COP 1 (1997) to COP 11 (2013). He also participated, inter alia, at the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II), the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) and the UN World Food Summit. He holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Geosciences, Freiburg University. To this end he conducted field research in Northern Pakistan as part of a DFG priority program. Prior to this, as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), he wrote an empirically based master's thesis on agricultural extension services in Southern India.
