Prof Jörg E. Drewes
Environmental engineer

Jörg E. Drewes is Chair and Research Centre for Urban Water Management at the Technical University of Munich since 2013. Previously, he was Professor of Environmental Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, USA (2001-2013) and Research Director at the NSF Engineering Research Centre on Reinventing the Nation Urban Water Infrastructure. In 2010-11 he was Visiting Professor and Associate Director at the Water Desalination and Reuse Centre, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. He is former Chairman of the Water Reuse Specialist Group of the International Water Association (IWA), IWA Fellow, member of the Drinking Water Commission of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Environment Agency, the Water Future Expert Council of the Bavarian State Government, the Trace Substances Expert Panel of the State of California and the IWA Strategic Board. He is co-founder of Waterloop Solutions GmbH (2024). Main areas of research: New concepts for nature based and engineered water treatment; water recycling; behaviour of chemical and microbiological pollutants in natural and engineered water systems. He is a WBGU member since 2020 and Co-Chair since 11/2024.
