Karen Pittel is director of the Ifo Center for Energy, Climate and Exhaustible Resources and Professor of Economics, esp. Energy, Climate and Exhaustible Natural Resources, Faculty of Economics, University of Munich (since 2010). Studies of economics (University of Göttingen and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), Ph.D. research at Chemnitz University of Technology, habilitation at ETH Zürich. She was director of the Center for Economic Policy at ZHAW, Winter-thur (2009–2010). Research visits, e.g.: University of California at Berkeley, McGill University, Montreal, and CICERO – Center for International Climate and Environmental Research, Oslo; Member of, i.a., the Climate Council of Bavaria (since 2015), the German Committee Future Earth (German Science Foundation DFG) (since 2013) and the Council of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE, since 2014), research foci: energy, exhaustible resources, growth and sustainability. She is WBGU Member since 2016, since 2021 WBGU co-chair.
