Karen Pittel has been Director of the Centre for Energy, Climate and Exhaustible Resources at the ifo Institute, Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and Professor of Economics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich since 2010. She studied economics (Georg-August-University Göttingen and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill), obtained her doctorate (TU Chemnitz) and habilitation (ETH Zurich). Long-term research stays abroad, e.g. University of California at Berkeley, McGill University, Montreal, and CICERO - Center for International Climate and Environmental Research, Oslo. Member of the Climate Science Platform (since 2019), the Climate Council of the Bavarian State Government (since 2015) and the Presidium of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (since 2022), among others Main areas of research: Energy and climate economics and policy, long-term economic development. She has been a WBGU member since 2016.
