New members of German Advisory Council on Global Change appointed

Decision of the German Federal Cabinett

The German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) has been again appointed by the Federal Cabinet (until 31.10.2016). Five of the nine Council member have been reappionted.

The members of the sixth term of the WBGU are:  

Prof. Dr. Frauke Kraas

Professor for human geography at the Unitversity of Cologne

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Claus Leggewie

Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities, Essen (KWI) and Professor for Political Science, University of Gießen (since 1989). Co-Director of the Käte Hamburger Collegium "Political Cultures of World Society", University of Duisburg-Essen. WBGU Member since 2008.

Prof. Dr. Peter Lemke

Professor of Physics of Atmosphere and Ocean,  University of Bremen and  head of the Climate Sciences Research Division at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven.  

Prof. Dr. Ellen Matthies

Professor for Enviromental Psychology, University of Magdeburg.

Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner

Director of the German Development Institute, Bonn and Professor for political science at the University of Duisburg-Essen Member of the WBGU since 2004. 2009-2013 Vice Chair.

Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Nakicenovic

Professor of Energy Economics at the Vienna University of Technology. Acting Deputy Director of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and Director of the Global Energy Assessment. Since 2008 member of the WBGU.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber CBE

Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and external professor at the Santa Fe Institute. Member since 1992, 1994-1996 Vice Chair, 1996-2000 Chair, 2004–2008 Vice Chair and 2009-2013 Chair.

Prof. Dr. Sabine Schlacke

Professor of Public Law, specializing Building-, Environmental- and Planning Law at the University of Münster. Member of the WBGU since 2008.

Prof. Dr. Uwe Schneidewind

President and Chief Research Executive oft he Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and Professor for "Sustainable Transition Management" at the University of Wuppertal.
