The statement issued by the Technische Universität continues: „Professor Schellnhuber has inspired entirely new approaches to research, for example on tippingelements of the global climate and its consequences, or on the action-oriented 2°C target. With its interdisciplinary research approach, the PIK under Professor Schellnhuber has become a pioneer of global sustainability research. With the WBGU (German Advisory Council on Global Change) and other consultative activities, he manages to make his voice heard by decision-makers like no other. His collaboration with the TU Berlin includes their joint involvement in the Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT).“
Hans Joachim Schellnhuber has been a member of German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) since 1992. He was its deputy chair from 1994 to 1996, its chair from 1996 to 2000, and its deputy chair again from 2004 to 2008. He took over the WBGU‘s chair again in 2009.
