New chair elected

The members of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) elected Renate Schubert as new chair und Hans-Joachim Schellnhuber as vice chair.

The term of office is two years. Renate Schubert is professor for economics at the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology and head of the Center for Economic Research at the University of Zurich. She has been a WBGU member since 2000 and served as vice chair from 2003-2004. Hans-Joachim (John) Schellnhuber (CBE) is research director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in Norwich (UK) and director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. He has been a WBGU member since 1992. Between 1994-1996 he served as vice chair and between 1996-2000 he chaired the council. The German Advisory Council on Global Change has been reappointed by the Federal Cabinet in November 2004. The current term ends in 2008.
