The WBGU: Science for a sustainable future

The German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) was established by the German federal government in 1992 in the run-up to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development ("Rio Earth Summit") as an independent scientific advisory body. WBGU's task is to analyze global environmental and development problems and to develop recommendations for action and research to solve these problems. Sabine Schlacke and Karen Pittel are the two WBGU co-chairs.
