Professor Ina Schieferdecker is leaving the WBGU

Prof Dr.-Ing. Ina Schieferdecker was appointed to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as of October 1, 2019 and heads the directorate "Research for Digitization and Innovation".

This change also ends her membership of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), of which she has been a member since 2016. At the same time, she is resigning from office as Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems and Director of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and Professor for Quality Engineering of Open Distributed Systems at Technische Universität Berlin. Ms. Schieferdecker researched and lectured on Quality Engineering of Open Distributed Systems and on the integration of digitalization with the transformation to sustainability. 

"With Ina Schieferdecker, the BMBF has gained an excellent scientist, creative voice and visionary. We wish her continued strength and creativity for her future task," said the two WBGU-chairs, Professor Sabine Schlacke and Professor Dirk Messner.

The subsequent appointment of Mrs. Schieferdecker has not yet been decided.
