Advisor to the German Federal Government appointed EU Advocate-General
Prof. Kokott will take up office on 7 October 2003 for a sixyear term which ends on 6 October 2009. The Court of Justice of the European Union consists of one judge per member state and eight advocates-general.
By reason of this appointment and the additional duties entailed, Prof. Kokott will be leaving the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) on 5 October 2003. She has been a member of the Council since 1 July 1997, and its vice-chair until May 2003.
Prof. Kokott has been responsible for issues of international law within the Council and serves to date as Director of the Institute of European, Economic and Comparative Law at the University of St. Gallen. Her specialist areas are international law, European law, international economic law and comparative constitutional law. Previously she has held professorships in Düsseldorf, Heidelberg, Augsburg and Berkeley. Since 1995 she has been an alternate arbitrator at the OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration.
