Visiting professor at Université Paris-Nanterre (1994) and first incumbent of the Max Weber Chair at New York University (1995-1997). Honorary doctor of the Faculty of Theology of Universität Rostock (2008). Editor of „Blätter für deutsche und internationale Politik“, Berlin and of „Transit“, Wien.
