Elections Hartmut Graßl be elected as chair of the Council Bremerhaven/Berlin, 25 January 2001. Hartmut Graßl, a 60 year-old meteorologist, director at the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg and professor for Meteorology at the University of Hamburg has been elected as chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change. The 43 year-old lawyer Juliane Kokott professor from the University of St. Gallen became vice chair. Both are elected for a two-years term. Professor Graßl was already chair of the Council between 1992 and 1994. He cancelled his chairmanship when he became director of the Geneva based World Climate Research Programme in 1994. Professor Kokott was already vice chair between 1996 and 2000. The nine Council members have been appointed November 1st 2000 for a period of four years.
