Benno Pilardeaux is responsible for WBGU's press and public relations work and is one of the co-authors of the WBGU's reports. He deals primarily with development policy issues. For the WBGU, he was present at most of the Conferences of the Parties to the UN Convention on Combat Desertification (UNCCD) at COP 9 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II), the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), the UNEP Governing Council (22)/Global Ministerial Environment Forum and the UN World Food Summit. He holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Geosciences at the University of Freiburg on "Innovation and Development in Northern Pakistan", accompanied by extensive field research as part of a DFG priority programme. Prior to this, as a DAAD scholarship holder, he wrote an empirically based master's thesis on advisory systems for agricultural development in southern India.
