Head of the interdisciplinary working group geobiology and anthropocene research at the Earth Science Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin. Affliliate Professor at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at the Ludwig Maximilians-Universität Munich. Focus on geobiology, biodiversity, anthropocene research and science communication. Founder of the GeoBio-Center at Munich University, corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Science, member of the working group biodiversity  of the European Academy Science Advisory Council, member of the Expert Advisory Council for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management of the State of Berlin. Member of WBGU since 2008.
